BREAKING NEWS: COVID Sick Leave Relief on the WAY!!---CTA 1-25-22

CTA purple.png

Thanks to our collective advocacy, including calls from educators and other union members across the state, Governor Gavin Newsom and legislative leaders this morning announced an agreement that will provide much-needed supplemental paid COVID sick leave to educators, school personnel and all California workers. The proposal provides up to 80 hours of Supplemental Paid Sick Leave (SPSL), with a guarantee of 40 hours to all employees. The proposal is retroactive to January 1 and extends to September 30, 2022. It covers workers and care for family members.

The legislature is expected to vote on this in an Early Action Budget bill next week. Please join CTA as we continue to call on lawmakers to support SPSL. Visit the CTA Action Center. Working together we will secure this important leave that will allow teachers and school employees to isolate, recover and return safely to their students and classrooms.

Thank you,

E. Toby Boyd
CTA President
